In 1908, the name “Rolex” was officially registered. Hans Wilsdorf recounted the inspiration behind the name, saying, “I tried to combine the letters of the alphabet in every possible way. This gave me a few hundred names, but I didn’t feel quite right about any of them. One morning, while riding on the top deck of a horse-drawn omnibus along Cheapside in the City of London, the genie whispered ‘Rolex’ in my ear.”
In 1920, Montres Rolex S.A. was registered in Geneva.
